Introducing SPAAAWN

I first met Phillip when I was in my early 20s and he's still a fresh-out-of Kuwait Hiligaynon teenager exploring the pockets of Manila's underground scene. Immediately I was moved by his particularity and crave to create something that couldn't be pigeonholed and those traits gave birth to what became his spaaawn music project.

spaaawn is a musician & sound artist based in Iloilo City, Philippines exploring the subtleties of nature with electronics. Utilising field recordings, synthesis, sampling, and digital audio processing; his work attempts to merge the physical with the digital—creating sound to enter altered states of awareness and as an instrument for community building amidst the noise in the internet age.

Through the years, he developed his unique sound aesthetic and refinement and had showcased them live in various exhibits and concerts in South East Asia.

He is an active member of Aftersyx, Buwanbuwan Collective & Promdi Collective.

"disembodied: a compilation" is a collection of works by spaaawn from 2018 until recent.

"I've explored various processes in my craft since 2012, leaning towards experimental electronic music by means of genres such as: pop, heavy metal, folk, post-rock, no-wave, ambient, hip-hop, etc.; and rave culture as well.

This has guided me in developing a sonic vocabulary which helps me to express and interact in our material world, much like different textures of sound and how they interact with each other. Boundaries are now blurred to me as I relate this knowledge to different fields, I believe music helps us transcend by bringing us to a flow state. Although, as things in the world evolve and unfold into complexity, I sometimes can't help but be silent & just listen."
